While most of us except a few startups (which are seeing positive business impact) are doing the following things to do damage control or trying to set up the org to be more effective and productive:

  1. Establish work from home and safety to team members,
  2. Ensure delivery of services/products,
  3. Boost sales efforts aggressively,
  4. Reduce costs,
  5. De-prioritize long term plans

Apart from doing these above-mentioned P0's (most important things) — how we can use the time at hand to build a strong foundation for the future:

  1. Building Customer Insights: Most likely your users will have more time at hand, and possible to get great feedback from them.
  2. Market research for new opportunities: Deep dive into new business opportunities and do thought experiments.
  3. Cleaning the product — Do a proper data deep-dive to understand the usage of the features launched so far, and remove the unnecessary features from the products to keep the apps/products lean and speedy. Since new features are paused, investment in tech debt and documentation can be done to leverage in the future.
  4. Building strong foundations to adopt the processes or tools — the best time to adopt OKR process or task management tools, etc. The team will show much lesser friction to adopt these tools as these are need of the hour. Also, building a basic discipline of preparation for meetings, punctuality, documentation of minutes and follow-ups, etc
  5. Learn to distance and work from home — gives you a chance to separate yourself from fire-fighting and reactive mode to step back and think on why. And then remove the problem from the roots rather than sand-bagging them.

Stay Positive, Stay Focused, Stay Calm :)
